Marja (also spelt Marjah or Marjeh) is an unincorporated agricultural district in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, southwest of Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital. The name Marja is also applied to a small location within the district where a number of farmers' markets, shops and a mosque are located. The population of the Marja district is 80,000 - 125,000 spread across 80 - 125 square miles, an area larger than Cleveland or Washington D.C..
I don't see this as necessarily deceptive. Whether the area is called a "city" or not, there really are over 80,000 people in the area, not to mention the fact that strategic importance of a given attack is not necessarily related to how populous the area is.0 pointsGopher wrote 141 Days Ago (neutral) 0Pete, this is heart breaking, I really believed Obama would be more truthful. This deception has come as a great disappointment. I hope he will address this issue, if he doesn't, Obama and his administration will lose a lot of credibility with me. Damn, such a terrible shame.

The ISAF official said the only population numbering tens of thousands associated with Marjah is spread across many villages and almost 200 square kilometers, or about 125 square miles.
Marjah has never even been incorporated, according to the official, but there are now plans to formalize its status as an actual "district" of Helmand province."
I am saddened to learn the Obama Administration is involved in this level of deception in the Obama Administration's major military action.1 point
