newsmax.com — The embattled head of the GOP isn't getting an endorsement from Sen. McCain. McCain says party chairman Michael Steele's recent comments about the Afghanistan war are "wildly inaccurate" and inexcusable. The Arizona Republican says Steele needs to assess whether he can still function in his job and must make "an appropriate decision" about his future.

huffingtonpost.com — Jon Stewart took on the arrest of Faisal Shahazad (a name he compared to his eczema cream) last night, having some fun with circumstances along the way. After noting that the arrest was impressively made in "less time than it takes Sting to climax," Stewart faithfully depicted how they caught him with clips from action movies (how else would you picture it?). But what really blew Stewart's mind was when he found himself in agreement with Glenn Beck, who "was for more reasonable" than John McCain when it came to issue of reading the suspect his Miranda rights. Stewart and Beck seeing eye to eye? Mark this day in history.

crooksandliars.com — According to President-in-his-own-mind McCain, Faisal Shahzad should not have been read his Miranda rights, despite his standing as a US citizen.

thehill.com — Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is playing a major role in blocking a House bill that has a record number of co-sponsors. The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.), is one of the more straightforward bills in Congress. It would add three words to the Navy Department's name, changing it from the Department of the Navy to the Department of the Navy and Marine Corps. The Marine Corps is under the umbrella of the Navy Department, a fact that proponents of the Jones bill say some people don't know — including members of Congress. Jones contends that not including the Marine Corps in the Navy Department's formal name is a slight to the Marines who have fought and died for the U.S.

videocafe.crooksandliars.com —  John McCain isn't selling his soul for political gain -- he's driving down its price so he can make a fortune in default swaps on the backend. The Daily Show does something quite clever here. Instead of just taking the many, many instances that openly contradict McCain's ridiculous statement that he doesn't consider himself a "maverick" (despite the decades of self-promotion as such) they reduce McCain's pandering to the absurdity it is.

thinkprogress.org — Since the House passed health care reform on Sunday, Democratic lawmakers who voted for the bill have received death threats and been victims of vandalism. While some Republicans have condemned these incidents, but on Tuesday, Sarah Palin seemed to fan the flames of discontent by labeling a map of vulnerable lawmakers’ districts with crosshairs on her Facebook page and tweeting, “Commonsense Conservatives & lovers of America: ‘Don’t Retreat, Instead – RELOAD!’” This morning, NBC’s Ann Curry asked Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) if he believed his former running mate should use less “incendiary” language. McCain condemned any violence but bristled at the suggestion that her use of such violent imagery was inappropriate in light of the atmosphere of threats against lawmakers. “Those are fine. They’re used all the time,”

serkadis.com —  U.S. Sen. Mark Udall and a Colorado state senator have gotten caught in the crossfire over health care. A hearing Tuesday on Udall’s bill to protect communities from bark beetles was canceled after Republicans angry over the passage of health insurance reform legislation blocked it by using an obscure Senate rule requiring a unanimous consent to hold hearings scheduled after 2 p.m. One of the witnesses set to testify at the hearing was Colorado state Sen. Dan Gibbs. Udall says he hopes to get the hearing rescheduled this week. Yes, John McCain objected to a hearing on bark beetles. Because of health care.

alternet.org — On March 4th, Senators John McCain and Joe Lieberman introduced a bill called the "Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010" that, if passed, would set this country on a course to become a military dictatorship.
